ah, Guilty Pleasure at its finest Aug 21, 2006
By dottikins This show is pretty much the definition of a guilty pleasure, and I'm guilty all right: half of the people I know mock me for watching this show and the other half have no idea I watch because I would die of shame if they found out. My sister constantly questions why I watch LB and I have fine-honed my reasons:
-- I went to an overly academically geared high school, so never had the chance to gossip about the in-crowd hijinks of "hooking up" and drunken antics. I missed out on my prime gossip years!
-- It's a chance to see how the other (wealthier) half live... and mock them.
-- Anthropologists have determined that 60% of human communication involves talking about other people; watching "Laguna Beach" proves how human I am.
-- It's a chance to sit back and watch attractive, overly wealthy and pampered teenagers make each other miserable by gossiping, back-stabbing and stealing each other's boyfriends and objects of affection. It's like the real-life version of "Mean Girls" only without Tina Fey writing their lines for them. Less wit, better clothes!
The show is lots of fun if you've got the twisted sensibility to enjoy it. And the second season is much, much better than the first season, with more cat fights, break-ups, tears and "hook-ups" than ever.
My only caveat: watching this on DVD is really the best way to watch, just downing episode after episode right after each other, but I don't know about the necessity of owning them -- who would want to re-watch these episode over and over again? I'm pretty much of the opinion that no reality show is a must-have on DVD, so definitely Netflix/rent over buying.

Life above surface is Surreal, Life below surface is just the Same Jan 15, 2008
By Zhao Yang I like to watch this TV series for one simple reason - try not to feel jealous about how material/pretty their life may look like, feel happy for the fact that all of them have to grow up and go through all the necessary phases in their life like the others with no exception.
Growing up takes time and i am sure today, these teenagers are no longer the same as yesterday!

Overall, A Good Purchase Jul 18, 2006

I am very pleased with having ordered this DVD. You're probably wondering how I'm going to tell you about it when it hasn't been released, yet. I already have it because MTV sent it three weeks before its release date to everyone who pre-ordered it.
The DVD has pretty cool bonus features like Deleted Scenes, Interviews, Casting Tapes, Photos, Childhood Home Videos, A Preview for Season 3 (which is different than the one shown on the season two finale; and a little different from the one viewable at www.lagunabeach.mtv.com, like 4 featurettes, a preview for "Virtual Laguna Beach" (You create a character and live in Laguna Beach; very much like the Sims, only Laguna Beach-ized. For expample, you have to try and get a date for senior prom), and a lot of other stuff.
Definetly worthy of my $25! I'd reccomend it for any Laguna Beach fan or any who can stomach watching a group of rich teenagers.

THE most immature brats ... :-( Jan 14, 2008
By Little Miss Cutey What a group of idiots. I've never seen a more ignorant, immature bunch of brats in my life. All they do is vacation because heaven forbid they go get real jobs. Then they winge to each other about the same stuff day after day after day after day ... They rehash the same boy issues over and over and for a change of pace, the guys are more mature than the idiot girls. When Kristin and Stephen have their talk about her seeing another guy, there is no dialogue because they are both too stupid to think of something to say, and then what happens? She drives off in her car on the phone (very safe driving) and mouths off about him to her friend and every other word is 'like'. If they say 'like' one more time, I might scream. And who the heck pays for their vacations etc? Their parents who if had been present in their lives more, might have raised better kids. These kids might be rich, but their lives are boring because all they do is hang out with the same people (even those they hate) at the same places all the boring time. Why don't they read a newspaper or do something else intelligent to broaden their narrow minds and bring more varied conversations to this show. Don't waste your money on this rubbish. The only 'intelligent' one in the bunch (and certainly the nicest) is Lauren and her show "The Hills" is a zillion times better. Like totally.
