Description

Spoiled rich girl Madison Penrose (Julianna Guill) plans the ultimate Sweet 16 party at the abandoned Rollerdome where a series of grisly murders took place a decade earlier. Skye Rotter (Lauren McKnight), the daughter of the missing killer Charlie Rotter and class outcast, just wants to forget the past and lead a normal life. That hope comes when Brigg (Chris Zylka), the class heartthrob and Madison's ex, starts noticing Skye in school. Skye crashes Madison's party to see Brigg and make her dream come true. But that dream turns into a nightmare when Charlie crashes the party too and the night goes from sweet to psycho! With the perfect blend of teen romance, sly humor and full on horror, MY SUPER PSYCHO SWEET 16 is a party to die for.

4A Slasher Movie..........Complete With Social Commentary?  Oct 05, 2010 By G. Garner
As a slasher film, this is solid but nothing special. However, taken in terms of its overall quality, it is very good. I really like this movie, for two reasons.

First of all, it offers valid and insightful social commentary on the utter foolishness of these Sweet Sixteen parties and the warped values they espouse. You get the whole package, not only the spoiled, obnoxious girl, but also, more importantly, the doting father. I say he is more important, because it is clearly the parents who create the problem. Decent people do not spend tens of thousands of dollars on birthday parties. Period.

Let's face it, once you get past a certain point, it is not about enjoying a party. Once you spend thousands of dollars, it is purely about displaying the fact that you have lots of disposable income. This is about as tacky as it gets(especially in THIS economy).

Of course, I don't have anything against rich people. Some people are always going to have more than others. That's just how the world works. But it's the vulgar display, just for the sake of the display, that is in such poor taste. The act of putting on a show, just for the sake of reminding your neighbors how much more you have than they do. This film offers great perspective on this phenomenon.

But this film is really carried by its heroine. She is the proverbial 'outcast' girl...........although she is hotter than the girls who are supposed to be so much more popular. I have to confess, I forget her name, but she anchors this movie. She is incredible. She is gorgeous, but in a way that really suits a horror film. She is raven-haired, and very dark, which lends her an aura of mystery. (Edgar Allen Poe used to write about women with really long, black, beautiful hair, which is why I guess I tend to associate this look with the world of horror.)

Either way, she has a depth about her, and a strength, so she is more than just another pretty face. She exudes the kind of integrity and individuality that you have to have to make this type of character believeable. She is very authentic as a decent, likeable girl. But she has enough of an edge, enough of a sense of power, that you are not really all that surprised at how she handles herself in the film's climactic moments.

This is just a tv movie, so certain elements do not hold up to what slasher fans might expect in terms of gore or graphic violence. But the heroine is one of the absolute best. You can go back 10 years, to the Scream films, or even all the way back to the early 80's, with Halloween, Friday the 13th, Prom Night, etc. You won't find many lead females in any of those classics who are any better or stronger than this girl.

And, perhaps best of all, the TRUE evil in this film is fully acknowledged..........and then dealt some very brutal justice.

I highly recommend this movie.

3Acceptable release for phenomenal movie.  Aug 15, 2012 By Sean
Just got my copy of MSPS16 (along with the sequels!) on DVD. This review is for the DVD, not the movie (which is great). I was a bit worried that because of the format, this movie would lack in quality. I was surprised to find that the quality is just as good as it was back on October 23rd, 2009 when I caught the flick on TV, but it's nothing worth raving about. Another good bonus was that it's the uncut version, though I was disapointed to find that this version has the commercial cues unlike the iTunes version. It is what it is. If you can afford it, then I reccomend getting the DVD, especially because the movie itself is great.

5My Super Psycho Sweet 16  Sep 14, 2011 By blu-rays
For an MTV Movie that was originally aired on television, it's pretty great...
I original bought a digital copy of the movie on iTunes for $4 and it was great! I loved it and then I just had to buy it on DVD. I bought and I love it! I watched it three times the first week I had it.

Now onto the DVD-R "issue" its actually not that bad -- I watched it on a blu-ray player on a HDTV and it looked great! High Recommended
